Do you want something new to happen in your life? Something fresh that has never happened before but you can’t see a way for anything new right now? In the scripture God says to us that he wants to do a new thing in our lives but not just one new thing or two new things but many! He wants to bring about something in our lives that we’ve never seen or done before. He says in scripture that he’ll do this in two ways in our lives found below.
- He’ll make streams in wasteland
- He’ll make a way in the wilderness
We find this in the book of Isaiah chapter 43 below:
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19)
We are in a wilderness right now with the current global pandemic going on. Life is not normal and we’ve had to adjust to doing life in a whole new way. Our school may look different if you are a student, parenting looks different if you are a parent, even ministry looks different for those who are in ministry.
In times like this we life just looks different and it’s ok that we don’t have answers for everything. It’s ok to not know what’s coming next or what to prepare for. With wilderness the unknown naturally follows but I want you to know that just because we are in a wilderness right now and it seems like everything got turned upside down doesn’t mean that God isn’t working. God says he wants to do a new thing even in the wilderness!
One new thing God is doing right now that we can clearly see is what’s being done in the local church! We can look at churches and see the creativity and innovation coming to life that’s enabling churches to reach hundreds of people online through streaming and to think that wasn’t being done before in many churches. That’s something new that God is doing through his church! He’s still building his church even in a pandemic, how cool!
Take a second and look at your life from a different perspective and see if you notice anything new that he is trying to do in your life. See if you feel something in your heart that God is trying to show or teach you in this season. Could it be that he wants you to reach out to some friends and start a home group that meets virtually? Is God trying to do something new not just in you but your entire family and now’s the perfect time? Or it could be that you simply needed to slow down in life and hit the pause button, and now that you’ve been forced to God finally has your attention.
Whatever it is that think God is doing, let him slowly show you, be patient and open to what God wants to do in you during this season. I believe God is doing something new in you even if you don’t see it yet.

- What new thing is God doing in your life?
- Can you see or sense something that God is trying to do?
- If you cam’t see it just yet, spend time in prayer and ask him to help you see what he’s doing.
