We all go through seasons where we aren’t disciplined like we should be or taking steps that we know we should take.
There is a guy in the bible named Jonah and he went through a short season where he didn’t take steps to growth like he should have. Jonah had this plant that wouldn’t grow and he was concerned and worried about it not growing but there was a problem. Jonah never put any action behind his worry.
But the Lord said, “You have been concerned about this plant, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. (Jonah 4:10)
God told Jonah that the plant didn’t grow because he didn’t tend to it or water it to make it grow. Jonah missed the two steps to growth. Just like Jonah and the plant, we will worry about our personal growth but if we don’t discipline ourselves to grow in every area of our life than we will not see results.
Worry without action is meaningless.
Worrying does some good. It gets us to thinking about how we can or how we aren’t getting any better. Worry makes us wonder what will happen if we don’t get any better.
Worry is not what prevents us from fulfilling God’s plans for our lives, its not acting on that worry that prevents it.
Here is another example about growth. If I want to get better at being nicer to people, it would not make any sense to keep being the same person day in and day out. You can worry about being a nicer person all you want, but until you get your ass out there and start being nicer to people than you will never see results.
