Worship While It’s Wet

This past Christmas Eve I woke up early, went to the kitchen, and poured myself a nice warm cup of coffee. I then headed downstairs to the basement for some quiet bible reading time.

As I got downstairs it was dark and cold as I stepped across the floor when all of a sudden, my feet became wet. Have you ever stepped on a soaking wet rug? It’s not fun. I quickly set my coffee down and turned on the light to find water all over the floor! It was everywhere!

I thought “This is not how I wanted to start Christmas Eve!” I quickly went back upstairs, grabbed some towels, and began to move the furniture around out of the way so I could start getting the water up.

Our dog Riley woke up and ran downstairs to see what the noise was and when she saw all of the water she quickly bolted right back upstairs only to go and start barking and licking Allison to wake her up. It was like Riley said, “I’m telling Mom what you’re doing!”

Allison then came downstairs and saw what a mess I was in. She looked at me and said, “We have to be at church soon Bryant.”

We had five Christmas Eve services starting soon and Allison and I both had to be there. Allison went back upstairs and I got the water somewhat manageable with towels and a shop vac so we could leave for church.

I then went upstairs to find Allison singing to a worship song. I was like, “your singing while all that water is downstairs and we need to leave?” She said, “I’m not letting this water ruin my day, I’m worshipping.”

Allison was worshipping while it was wet.

I just wonder… what is the “wet” you are in right now?

It could be something financial that’s got you scared, it could be something with a relationship, it could be something at work, it could be that you feel stuck in the season you’re in.

Whatever your “wet” is, you know when you’re in it.

Application:

Have you tried to sing while in the wet? You might say “I don’t want to sing because I don’t feel like singing. Nothing good is happening.”

You won’t always feel like singing… I know Allison didn’t. She made herself sing. She chose to sing. Your feelings won’t always match your singing but that’s when you have to sing and allow your feelings to catch up.

Jesus is with you right in the middle of the wet. No matter how damp and dark it may seem, Jesus is right there in the water alongside you.

Find a song that speaks to you and worship while it’s wet

A song that I’m really enjoying singing these days is called “God Is Not Against Me” by Brandon Lake. Go ahead and give that a listen below, who knows, it might become your song for the season.
